Emergency Food Pantry
Our pantry has regularly scheduled hours Monday through Friday and serves the entire Kent County area.
- Monday - Thursday: 9:30-11:30am and 1:00pm - 4:00pm
- Friday: 9:00am- 11:30am
- We are closed daily from noon - 1pm
Identification is required for all household members. Adults are required to have a photo ID. Social security cards, school IDs, medical cards, shot records, and birth certificates are valid for children.
The Food Pantry is open designated hours each week and available to households across the county who are in need of emergency food to sustain themselves. The Pantry commits to securing as many fresh and healthy food items as possible in order to provide well-balanced orders of groceries that last 3 to 5 days.
If you would like to donate to the Salvation Army Food Pantry please consider the following items which provide sustenance and promote healthy eating:
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
- Canned fruits (in light syrup or fruit juices preferred)
- Canned vegetables (low sodium preferred)
- Rice (brown or white)
- Canned meat in water (chicken, tuna, salmon)
- Peanut butter
- Frozen meat
- Pasta sauce
- Crackers (whole grain or whole wheat)
- Cereal (whole grain)
Energy assistance for electric, natural gas, and deliverable fuel may be available for households that have a past-due notice, are facing shut off, or are already disconnected. Please call (616) 459-9468 to find out if you are eligible for assistance. Households do not need to apply at DHS before seeking assistance from The Salvation Army.
Holiday assistance is available for Christmas. Food vouchers and toys are provided as appropriate with the support of community donations.
